Aggressive DWI/DUI/OWI Defense in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin

An arrest for drunk driving can trigger immediate consequences. If convicted, you may face jail time, fines, driver's license suspension and the loss of your license plates. A DWI/DUI/OWI conviction also means higher insurance premiums and a criminal record. You may even lose your vehicle. Too much is at stake not to have an experienced drunk driving defense lawyer in your corner.

At The Law Offices of David C. Keegan & Mikkel A. Long, we want to minimize the overall impact that a DUI/DWI/OWI offense can cause. We use our combined experience of over 40 years to protect your driving privileges, your vehicle and your freedom. Contact our offices, located in Duluth, to speak with a lawyer about your rights and options following a DUI arrest in northern Minnesota or Wisconsin.

If you are facing drunk driving charges, we can provide experienced assistance with:

  • Defending a DUI/DWI/OWI charge
  • Challenging the revocation of your driver's license and license plates
  • Fighting against the forfeiture of your vehicle

Minnesota DWI Laws

A first offense DWI/DUI conviction in Minnesota can mean jail time of up to 90 days, a fine of $1000 and license suspension of up to 90 days. Penalties significantly increase, however, if you have had a prior DWI conviction in the last 10 years. Additionally, Minnesota's courts routinely enforce mandatory minimum sentencing laws for repeat drunk driving convictions. If you face drunk driving charges and have three prior convictions in the last 10 years, you could face a felony DWI conviction.

Wisconsin OWI Laws

A first offense OWI conviction in Wisconsin can mean fines of up to $300 and license suspension of up to nine months. Under Wisconsin drunk driving laws, not only do penalties increase with prior OWI convictions, the legal limit decreases from .08 percent to .02 percent for individuals with three OWI convictions. A fifth or subsequent drunk driving conviction in Wisconsin is a felony.

Experienced Drunk Driving Defense

We work hard to challenge the evidence presented by the prosecution. An improperly calibrated breathalyzer machine, poorly conducted field sobriety test, or invalid traffic stop may be cause to have evidence suppressed from the record which weakens the case against you. We are here to fight for your interests.
